Letters | Hello from Peru
Our most recent trip for our physical and occupational therapy project, run by Medical Ministry International (www.mmint.org) was August, 2009. The team of four therapists and four students distributed more than 50 pairs of orthoses. The donated Fast Fit products were especially helpful and very easy to fit to the children. Orthoses like these are very expensive in Arequipa and do not compare in quality to what Cascade has. Many patients return to our clinic each year to receive new orthoses when they outgrow their old ones.
The next project to Peru is tentatively scheduled for August 15–30, 2010. Please join our project! Therapists of all disciplines are welcome as well as orthotists, prosthetists, wheelchair technicians, Spanish speaking translators, and general helpers. There will soon be a permanent center in Arequipa providing PT services year-round to care for the needs of Peruvians in addition to the short term trips. Professors and teachers of continuing education are also welcome to join in the effort, as education for the Peruvian physical therapists is always welcome. If you are interested in joining the project or donating items, please email Jodee Fortner, j.fortner@mmint.org.
Thank you, Cascade, for your continued, generous support.
Warmest regards,
Jodee Fortner MSPT, C/NDT
