DAFO 2

This image shows a Cascade Dafo product DAFO 2

Product Features

The DAFO 2 combines full wraparound foot control with a hinged proximal upright, designed to block ankle plantarflexion. The proximal anterior strap comfortably secures the orthosis to the leg. The proximal upright moves unrestricted with the dorsiflexion of the ankle. The DAFO 2 also provides a great deal of medial/lateral stability in both the stance and swing phases.

Patient Presentation

Learn more about the common gait and foot presentation groups our orthotic solutions help manage. Whether you're a parent, caregiver, or clinician, understanding these presentation groups is the first step in finding the right support for your child.

This image showcases the structure of the foot that is suffering from Excess Plantarflexion

Excess Plantarflexion

Understanding how persistent downward ankle positioning affects walking, balance, and endurance, and how thoughtful orthotic support can help guide safer, more efficient movement.

Knee Hyperextension

Understanding how limited ankle movement can shift forces upward during walking, leading the knee to move beyond its usual range, and how thoughtful support can help guide safer, more efficient movement.

Common Questions about the DAFO 2

Our DAFO 2 is designed for patients who need a strong plantarflexion block, free dorsiflexion, and supportive forefoot, midfoot, and hindfoot correction during gait.

Our DAFO 2 includes a posterior stop that blocks plantarflexion, encouraging the use of dorsiflexion and promoting heel contact during gait.

Yes. While it blocks plantarflexion, it still allows free use of dorsiflexion. The angle of the plantarflexion block is determined by the finished brace angles requested on the order form.

The plantarflexion block of the DAFO 2 encourages a dorsiflexed position that keeps the knee out of hyperextension.

The DAFO 2's extended height offers the same medial/lateral control as a solid ankle AFO, but the hinged design allows for full use of dorsiflexion while still limiting excessive plantarflexion. This free dorsiflexion style allows for therapeutic use and practice of voluntary dorsiflexion.

The DAFO 2 Softy is a version that includes a softy inner liner for patients who need the same plantarflexion block and alignment control with additional cushioning and comfort.

Each DAFO 2 is custom-fabricated from a fiberglass cast or 3D scan for a snug, accurate fit with the desired alignment angles.
