Plantar trimlines that ensure ease of toe-off and material longevity!

August 15, 2025

To help with toe-off and the protection of soft inner liners, the outer shell length of our braces change based on the inner liner material.

For OP Flex and Softy foam, our two softest and most pliable inner liner materials, we always extend the outer shell the full length to the end of the toes. This ensures there is no extra wear or tear on the inner liner as the braces move, flex, and bend.

For our various firm plastics, from the soft and flexible Polyethylene inners to our more sturdy and supportive Polypro and Copoly liners, the outer shell is trimmed just distal to the metatarsal heads. This allows for an easier toe-off and protects the outer shell from unnecessary straining and bending.

If you are ordering a brace with an inner liner and would like to ensure the outer shell is extended to the end of the toes regardless of liner material, this can easily be done by writing the request in the Additional Instructions box available on both our paper and online order forms. Please note that we will not fabricate the outer shell of braces with OP Flex or Softy foam inner liners as anything less than full length due to how it compromises the durability of the liner material.
